1982 – 2019 - Attorney, Private Practice, Colorado Springs, Colorado


  • Represented general business and corporate interests, including, but not limited to: commercial real estate purchases, sales, and development; business acquisitions and divestitures: general and limited partnerships; joint ventures; limited liability companies; not for profit corporations; employment and personnel issues, contracts, estate planning, and commercial business disputes. Served as General Counsel and Executive Vice President for a major Real Estate Development Company in Southern Colorado, handling all legal and day to day operational issues for a period of two years resulting in significant turn - around performance and profitability.


Sept. 2017 - May 2019 - Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer, Peak Vista Community Health Centers, Colorado Springs, Colorado 


  • Responsible for internal operations of a $90 million dollar Federally Qualified Health Care Center providing primary family health care services to approximately 93,000 patients in the Pikes Peak Region. Areas of responsibility include: administration, finance  budget, accounting, legal, strategic planning, grants, philanthropy, communications, public affairs, clinical support services, logistics, procurement, facilities, IT, compliance, and board relations.


April - September 2017 - Interim President & Chief Executive Officer, Rocky Mountain Health Corporation, Colorado Springs, Colorado


  • Served at the request of the Board of Directors to lead a $60 million dollar not for profit corporation providing All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) and Residential and Rehabilitation Training for brained injured individuals during a period of management and leadership instability. Responsible for all aspects of the organization: administration, finance  budget, accounting, legal, strategic planning, grants, philanthropy, communications, public affairs, clinical support services, logistics, procurement, facilities, IT, compliance and board relations. Also, lead the effort to identify and recruit permanent CEO after declining the Board’s offer to be the permanent President and CEO.


1996 - 2019 - President &Chief Executive Officer, Focused Strategies, Inc., Colorado Springs, Colorado 


  • Founder and Principal Consultant of an organizational development and training company specializing in organizational assessment, change, board governance/development, ethics, leadership, influence, conflict resolution, negotiation, strategic thinking/planning, succession planning, and executive development for a variety of corporate and government agencies across the United States.  Please see accompanying file “Significant Accomplishments” for detailed listing of engagements.


  • Founder, Principal Partner, President/CEO, and Chairman of Various Private Business Enterprises, Colorado Springs, CO.  Created, organized, capitalized and led three business ventures from start-up to maturity: Focused Strategies, Inc – a management consulting and training company; Hopewell Ventures, LLC – a natural gas drilling, production and marketing enterprise; Midnight Sun Capital Management, LLC -- a native owned, private equity real estate investment company; and Land Visions, LLC – a land investment and land banking investment company. 


1996 - Present - Adjunct Faculty, Subject Matter Expert, and Program Manager for the United States Office of Personnel Management, Western and Eastern Management Development Centers

  • Developed and conducted annually recurring ethics and leadership training programs for a variety of federal agencies including:  National Security Agency, Internal Revenue Service, Hawaii Federal Executive Board, Department of Agriculture, United States Army Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Indian Health Service, Colorado Leadership Academy, New Mexico Leadership Academy, Utah Leadership Academy, Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Bureau of Prisons, National Institute of Corrections,  Department of Energy, Bonneville Power Administration.


1983 - 1996 - Adjunct Graduate School Professor, Regis University, School for Professional Studies, Colorado Springs, Colorado


  • Developed and taught graduate business school courses for Regis University's MBA Program and Regis' Center for Non Profit Organizational Leadership.  Courses included ethics, leadership, law, negotiations, conflict management, and organizational development.


1979 – 1981 - Budget Program Specialist, State of Washington, DSHS Spokane, Washington 


  • Planned, developed and managed a $20 million operating and capital budget which supported 98 social service programs and 500 employees throughout 11 Eastern Washington counties.  Developed and implemented a budget accountability system for local office administrators. Performed cost/benefit analysis on newly proposed social service programs.


1976 – 1979 - Associate for Campaign and Community Planning, United Way of Spokane County, Washington 


  • Evaluated management, program and financial activities of nonprofit corporations seeking financial support from United Way; performed community planning and program analysis and provided management consultation to member agencies.  Organized and managed the annual fund raising drive; developed and managed public relation activities and raised $2,325,347 in 1979.  Supervised 7 professional staff; and maintained cooperative labor relations with key labor leaders.  


1975 – 1976 - United Way of America, Alexandria, Virginia 


  • Successfully completed an accelerated management development program involving practical work experiences in management, administration, and community development and planning.


1972- 1975 Part-time College Employment


  • La Casa Contenta Residential Treatment Center, Colorado Springs, Colorado - Residential counselor to troubled youth.


  • El Paso County Farm, Colorado Springs, Colorado - Provided casework services to indigent and homeless residents of the County. 


  • Project Director, National Science Foundation Grant, GY 11326,  The Colorado College, Colorado Springs, Colorado - Directed a $15,000 social environmental audit of Colorado Springs.  Compiled and edited the Final Technical Report, as well as authored the chapter on Health Care.
